I arrived alone in Vancouver from an isolated sugar cane plantation in South America, to attend a marine radio officer’s course at the Vancouver Vocational Institute (VCC). On Friday October 20, 1967, 7 pm, less than a month after I arrived, I was walking at the corner of Granville and Robson streets, in front of the Royal Bank, when Foncie took this photograph of me.
Now 48 years later, its one of the most important and significant moment of my life in Canada.

October 29, 2021. After 54 years in BC, this photo brings back many emotional memories of me walking on Granville street for the first time, near the Up Town restaurant.
Foncie captured a special time of my life and the wonderful Canadians I am to meet through the decades.
