This photo was taken in May, 1955. I had come from Australia in February of that year but had not “dated” any Canadian man in those months. I asked an Australian woman who was married to a Canadian how to meet a single Canadian man as my girl friends back home were asking me what they were like. Her husband said that Canadian men married young and all his friends, except one, were already married and his single friend was a confirmed bachelor and not interested in marriage. I swiftly answered that I wasn’t either as I was travelling. So he set up for us to meet.
This picture is taken on our first date. Now the confirmed bachelor and I have been married for 55 years – but we did get to travel!
