Fran’s mother, Nell. She was a strong woman, raised my sister and I in a boarding house that was located where the library is now on Georgia. Eventually she moved to Whitehorse and began doing catering work. Started the first delicatessen in the Yukon. She came back to live in Vancouver in 1956 and continued to work as a cook in restaurants, the Aristocrat chain. They served everything there. I can remember her making me banana fritters. She never remarried, kept on working into her 70s.
