Alan Pugsley (L), and Don Radelet in the early 1940s. Both were members of the Kitsilano Boys’ Band and had been on tour with the band in England in 1939 when Britain declared war on Germany. By night and under the cover of search lights, balloons and sirens the boys made their way back to Canada on the Empress of Britain, zig-zagging across the Atlantic to avoid U-boats. Don and many others in the band returned to fight in the war. By Jove What A Band, www.warfleetpress.com
