My dad, Michal Omelaniec AKA Mike Omelance (Mar. 11, 1919 – Feb. 5, 2003).
A young immigrant from Shereshevo, Belarus (formerly know as Szereszow, Poland) starting a new life in Vancouver free from war and repression. Dad landed in Quebec on the Dutchess of Athol Oct. 15, 1937, with his widowed mother, Maria; sister, Elsie and brother, Nick. Already in Canada was his sister, Vera, and coming the next year his brother, Steve. They worked hard, lived free, prospered and helped build a nation.
