This is my father, W. L. Vernon-Martin(1911 – 1998) and my stepmother, Gladys. When my father was 16, he operated a gas station on West 10th Avenue, near UBC. Later, he was a taxi driver with his buddy Cec Williams, a merchant seaman and a bus driver. He served in WW II in the RCN, on board the frigate HMCS Orkney. After the war, he was the General Manager of the Royal Blue Bus company in Victoria(Gladys was co-owner of the bus company), operated a motel near Hope, owned a construction company, and later had a real estate and insurance office, Pacific Properties. He also dabbled for many years in the B. C. penny-stock mining business.
