My parents came to BC from Ontario in 1948 by train. I was five years old at the time. They came with only the clothes on their back and me. After disembarking, they went straight to a rental agency who told them there was nothing available, so they sat on the steps outside the building for hours not knowing what to do until someone came out and told them of a one room apartment they coud rent. This photo was taken shortly after their arrival, looking a little desperate.
