This is a picture of my father. He was a freelance commercial artist in Vancouver. He was also from Poland. My parents moved to Vancouver in 1953 from Oshawa Ontario, where they had met. Dad said the photographer had commented that he had never seen a man in a suit with a beard. That all the men who had beards at that time were lumberjacks!
My father went on to become the first art co-ordinator and established the art program at Capilano College now Capilano University

Stephen Leskard was my instructor at CC in 1972/3. I enrolled in his course for an ‘easy credit’ ( I was Arts & Science student ). First mid term he gave me a failing grade & I told him I had to drop the course to keep my GPA high enough to transfer to UBC. He encourage me to stay with it and practice 3hrs per every hour of class time. I did and my work improved enough to earn a B, the hardest I ever had to work for am decent grade. I learned so much in his class. Ended up switching over to fine art program and stayed enrolled, part time until 1982. Best decision I ever made thanks to his encouragement.
